Thirteen months is such a funny age for toys. Honestly, toys are starting to become a little less important, and exploring the kitchen, opening cabinets, and getting into anything she probably shouldn’t is much more exciting.
But there were still a handful of toys that really caught her attention this month. These are the five that she kept coming back to.
Learning Resources Farm Animals
My favorite thing about this set is that it feels like a toy she can keep throughout her whole childhood. It doesn’t scream baby toy, but it’s still safe for younger kids who are very much still in the “put everything in their mouth” phase.
They’re great for stacking, sorting into bins, and practicing animal sounds. The open-ended play really does feel endless.
The only downside is that they’re not my favorite toy to bring places. Some of the animals, especially the horse, are still a little big for her to carry easily. But at home on the play mat? Perfect.
Little People Woodland Creatures
Similar vibe, but the big difference is the size. They fit perfectly in her little 13-month-old hands, which means these come everywhere with us: in the car, on walks, even through the grocery store.
They’re another great way to practice animal sounds, but lately she’s been making them walk and jump, which is ridiculously cute. She’ll study all the tiny painted details, play little games, carry them around… and yes, occasionally chew on their heads.
Truly the full 13-month-old toy experience.
Soft Stacking Blocks
We’ve had these since she was around six months old, but they feel like a completely different toy now.
For months, she loved watching us stack them just so she could knock them down. But now she’s finally got the dexterity to stack them herself. And honestly, it’s adorable.
Now it’s this little back-and-forth game: I build, she crashes, then she tries to build her own.
What more could a 13-month-old possibly want?
Fisher-Price Rainbow
This one is basically what my open-ended-play dreams are made of.
First of all, it’s beautiful. It looks like the ideal little kid toy sitting out. But more importantly, she actually plays with it.
We stack the rainbow, pull it apart, stack it in new ways, and look for different ways to balance the pieces. It’s simple, which I think is exactly why it works.
The possibilities feel endless, and it’s another toy that feels like it’ll last in our playroom for a long time.
Bluey & Bingo Beanie Babies
These have quickly become favorites. I love that they have that classic Beanie Baby feel, but without the hard button eyes.
They’re the perfect size for her little hands—small enough to carry anywhere without being too heavy.
And right now, hugging and kissing her toys is one of her favorite things, so Bluey and Bingo get a lot of love.
At 13 months, I’m realizing the best toys aren’t the ones with the most features. They’re the simple ones she can carry, stack, knock over, and invent games with.
Even if, let’s be honest, none of them are as interesting as whatever’s hiding in the kitchen.
